Saturday at the Festival

Saturday

A good day of sport and competition started with junior GAA followed by Junior and senior soccer tournaments. The under 11 category was won by Augher with Aughnacloy runners up this time around. The tightly contested under 13 category third place went to Augher, runner up spot was taken by Fivemiletown.

In the senior competition Dainty Davy’s team missed out in the final to finish runners up to winners Clogher.

Red Apple Arts in Aughnacloy

In the Marquee tent Red Apple Arts ran an arts workshop showing local children and arts their proposal for a new sculpture which is to be installed in in Aughnacloy later this year. This provided an opportunity for local kids to tell the artists what was special about Aughnacloy and give valuable feedback to the artists in relation to the proposed sculpture.

On hand at the plaFarm Families Health Checkying fields was a Farm Families Health Check van and a steady stream of punters took the opportunity to avail of the service. This is part of a programme offered by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development which provides health related advice and information and also signposts to existing services for further advice and support.

The soap box Derby was run as a time trial this year rather than the side by side format of last year and a straw bale chicane was added on the high speed hill track of Sydney Street. Stuart Graydon took first place closely followed by James Hurst in runner up position

After a tiring day of competition what could be better than a night out with good company and some good sounds. Proceedings moved back to the playing fields for exactly that. The marquee quickly filled up with familiar faces. Noel Kelly of Soundwave DJ’Z provided entertainment until The Outlaws took to the stage. The dancers got out of their chairs and onto the floor as a hard working crew out the back made sure everyone was well fed and looked after with some very tasty burgers and a great salad selection.
