Festival Friday

The opening day at this year’s festival got off to a good start with lots to do for the kids throughout the day, a large climbing wall set up by the Army Cadets provided a formidable challenge to all young and old. In the marquee a magician amazed and the train ride was as popular as the ice cream man on what was a glorious summer’s afternoon. There were fierce painted faces and pretty painted nails and plenty of smiles. As evening approached the gathering grew and the big kids got ready for the tug of war. What a mighty battle it was to be, the teams lined out from The Golf Club, Clogher Valley’s Best, Dainty Davys, Loft bar, Frankies Boys, Trotters trots, Wilson’s Wonders, Brantry Boys engaged in a battle of technique and strength that lasted well into evening, the honors finally going to Dainty Davy’s men in a hard fought final against the Clogher Valley RFC lads.

Having worked up a thirst the yard of ale was the next event and was won by Dessie Bloomer closely followed by Franklin Caddoo.

Music in the marquee was a great mix of favourites, played a little differently, from the very talented Cracklin Jacks.

Before the evening was finished our judges, Carlene Leitch, Tyrone Rose 2012 Catherine Sherry and Kara MacNamee had the unenviable task of picking just two young ladies from the many gathered to crown the Festival Queen, won by Kera Boyle, and Princess Katie Bell.
